Washington operates Cyber Force across 20 countries at the invitation of foreign governments. The US military’s Cyber National Mission Force (CNMF) has executed 47 such defensive operations in the past three years, said US Army Major General William Hartman.
However, the need for more support is further increasing and they are not all the same in aim and deadlines said Hartman, CNMF’s commander.
Cyber Force Aimed At Improving Better Coalition
The initiative mirrors a broader push by the US government to enrich the coalition with allies in the fight against cybercrime, which often crosses borders. For instance, some of the biggest ransomware criminal gangs have targeted considerable countries, including the US.
Hartman stated CNMF had shipped out 43 specialists to Ukraine, which has been combatting the Russian cyber onslaught amid the war there, which Russia calls a special operation.
“However, those are cyber defense teams we send, and they hunt for transmitted adversaries, find tools and capabilities Hartman says, adding that the CNMF operated closely with the top US cyber organization the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
Moreover, both agencies had collaborated on thwarting conceivable attacks against three U.S. federal agencies by foreign foes, said Eric Goldstein, CISA’s executive assistant director.
We notified the agencies, guided them, and kicked off the incident response. Simultaneously, we collected all the information on opposition infrastructure and combat styles and shared it with CNMF, he said.
Voting System Breached Reveals Imminent Fear
The 2020 election outcome reported a separate cyberattack they revealed involved an Iranian hacking group that breached voting systems in the US.
The hackers had the power to meddle with the election result via the website. This was the main concern of the CNMF. However, the agency revoked the hacker’s access.
However, there was no influence on any election infrastructure, Goldstein added. We want to produce this as a model – find the technical proof to hand over to CNMF, adding that securing the 2024 US presidential election is a top priority that can’t be compromised.
