Taiwan authorities are equipping its citizens with knowledge in preparation for a potential Chinese invasion. According to Axios reports, Kuma academy is receiving funding of $20 million from Robert Tsao, a Taiwanese tech tycoon, to aid the training.

In the course of events, Taiwanese citizens will receive crucial cybersecurity awareness and cyber defense training. The training includes basic courses in identifying and debunking online disinformation.

Taiwan Aims to Fight Online Disinformation

The training aims to fight online disinformation and hybrid warfare likely to occur in the potential Chinese war. Kuma academy also plans to provide civilian training for three million citizens over the next three years.

Furthermore, the academy plans to launch advanced courses on open source intelligence gathering (OSINT) taught by hacking groups. OSINT courses include using satellites to track troop movements, analyzing databases, and accessing social media.

However, the co-founder of Kuma Academy, Puma Shen, said that OSINT isn’t popular in Taiwan. Training sessions were held this month in Taipei before she made the statement. She said, “Even with all these hackers, their volunteered efforts during the war won’t be enough. We want to expand.”

Puma Shen plans to train participants on the general OSINT practices for Taiwan. For example, on how to identify a legitimate Taiwanese social media user. The classes teach Taiwanese citizens to identify fake news and propaganda. The classes also aid citizens with knowledge of Chinese uniforms and weapons.

The co-founders said that the classes aim to instill hope in Taiwanese citizens. The classes would show their roles in national defense and the limitations of China, the co-founders added.

Ho Cheng Chui, one of the co-founders of Kuma Academy, said that he sought to eliminate the idea of Taiwan surrendering to a Chinese invasion. He emphasized historical examples of smaller countries repelling invaders from a larger country. He said that China would experience difficulties trying to invade Taiwan.
