Asst Fatabenefratelli saco IT system experienced Cyberattack

Milan is on the lookout as it believes the healthcare sector may experience further cyberattacks. The offensive may result in the divulgence of sensitive patient information could be breached presently and in future by hackers.

Computer systems were hacked by threat actors at dawn on Sunday aimed towards the hospital and territorial units of the ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco. The technical unit of the hospital has been tremendously damaged which led to loss of data, infrastructure, system, and sensitive patient information.

This threat was primarily traced to actors as their motive was in the sectors of Fatebenefratelli and Sacco sites, which influenced the functioning of all company offices (Buzzi, Melloni, and 33 local offices).

The technical unit of all company systems has been degraded by spontaneous illicit action from the hackers. Although security measures have been employed and implemented in this company recently, it does not gurantee 100% free attack.

Thus, it is advised to continue employing cybersecurity solutions and updating operating systems to reduce hackers’ mode of operation.

The Healthcare Sector takes Action Against Cyberattacks

Expertise specialist fills up the gap deployed in the computer systems to restore its framework.  It is certain they will exceed the time limit as this involves continued tactics, techniques and procedures to excel well in the scope.

Technician activities were supported by specialists from Regional IT Security Services and Postal Police. Assistance was provided to these technicians to ease their work flow and liaise with them to use security tools. The competent bodies were provided with complaints.

Patient data will be collected in paper form and not electronically due to these technical problems with the corporate IT infrastructure, today 2 May and tomorrow 3 May.

The Department of Emergency and  Withdrawal Points of the ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco hospitals (Fatebenefratelli, Sacco, Buzzi and Melloni) will have access to patient information by going through their paper documents.

To ascertain the a reduction in the risk of patient data, reduce fraud, unauthorized access and to improve efficiency of health systems, implementation of trusted updated operating software, data encryption should be done.
