Swiss Parliament Website Hit By Cyberattack

The official website of the Swiss parliament has been the target of a nasty attack since Wednesday.

As a result, it is continuously unreachable to members of the parliament or others, the president of the House of Representatives, Martin Candinas, said on Thursday.

Reassuringly, the IT services are operating stiffly to solve the problem, he added. The attack has restricted reaction times for parliamentary response team interventions.

Hackers Execute Fierce Attack on Parliament Systems

The attack happened on Wednesday afternoon. At the end of the day, parliament’s response service providers said the concerned authorities neutralized the attack and prevented the hackers from gaining entry into internal systems or data.

Unfortunately, on Thursday morning, however, there were still existing problems accessing the official website’s external link.

Notably, the system outage comes as parliamentarians received an SMS alert on Thursday morning to test parliament’s new alarm system.

The test comes after a botched evacuation in February when a man clothed in camouflage made an effort to gain entry to the parliament building. An explosives detection test at the entrance confirmed the positive.

Hackers steal Swiss police and customs data

Previously, Fedpol and the federal customs office affirmed on Saturday, June 3rd the publication of the data but downplayed the damage. However, a Fedpol spokesman confirmed that Software provider Xplain notified Fedpol about the attack a few days ago.

He added that based on the current information, the threat actors failed to impact any project and Xplain only had access to simulated, unspecified data for test purposes.

Shortly thereafter, a spokeswoman for the federal customs office said data from the FOCBS itself had not been impacted, only data were stolen from nearness with its clients claiming an investigation had been opened.

Switzerland has seen a growing number of cyberattacks in recent years, making up attacks on local authorities, doctors’ surgeries, guardianship services, media companies, and economic giants such as ABB and Swissport.
