Singapore is Focused on Improving ASEAN’s Cybersecurity

Singapore is one of many ASEAN countries that are driving to improve national security.

CyberRes published a report on the current state of cyber threats and a global overview of cyber events in 2021. The reports revealed that the Asia Pacific was one of the most affected regions with cyber threats of 23.5%. North America topped the list with 33.5%.

Singapore Affected by SITA Supply Incident

Sources reveal that some of the most significant events that happened in 2021 had an impact on Singapore. One of the events that had an impact on Singapore is the SITA supply chain incident. The incident affected many airlines globally.

However, Singapore is leading the charge in improving ASEAN’s cybersecurity landscape. The ASEAN-Singapore Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence aims to strengthen member states.

The reason is to develop cybersecurity policies, legislation, and research. Singapore is also implementing the ASEAN Regional Action Plan has effect from 2021 to 2025. ASEAN Regional Action Plan aims to improve areas like research collaboration, knowledge sharing, and training.

According to TechWire, President of Micro Focus’ Asia Pacific and Japan division said a great number of cyberattacks that occurred worldwide had a long-lasting impact on businesses and people.

“The good news is that Asia Pacific has a massive opportunity to reverse or contain the numbers moving forward with a clear understanding of the landscape and tactics now and in the future. The knowledge is a powerful defense,” he added.

Moreso, In support of Singapore enhancing the cybersecurity landscape, Fortinet, a cybersecurity company, announced a partnership with Singapore’s Quantum Engineering Program(QEP). The purpose of the partnership is to aid in the development of the country’s National Quantum-Safe Network(NSQN). NSQN aims to build ultra-secure communications and services infrastructure to protect digital transactions from cyber threats.
