Pro-Russian hackers claimed responsibility for what they said was an attack on a compartment of the FBI’s website, the freshest addition to a recent chain of purported attacks on U.S. government websites by Russian-aligned threat actors.

The hacking organization Killnet conveyed on its Telegram post page on Monday languishing an attack on the law enforcement reserves site for the FBI. The message contained a photo of what looked like a failed attempt to infiltrate the FBI site.

Russian Hacking Force on Raid

An account called “RADIS” first shared the post. Its bio hinted that it belonged to Killnet and the insurance of Russia’s cyberspace. However, it is unclear if the account belonged to the group affiliated with it.

Earlier on Monday, the Twitter account for Better Cyber, which portrays itself as a cybersecurity services company, said that the page was not accessible and shared a screenshot that seemed to show the site’s web address directing to a page to an unknown address.

Newsweek was not able to solely verify the purported cases on the FBI site or any involvement by pro-Russian hackers. Newsweek has reached out to the FBI for confirmation proof and comment.

Chains Of Reported Killnet Attacks

The attack, if the news is authentic, would come approximately a month after Killnet claimed accountability for attacks that took down websites for a modicum of U.S. airports.

Moreover, The O’Hare International Airport of Chicago and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport remains among those affected, but no problems with actual airport processes were reported at the time.

Killnet also claimed accountability for the short downing of numerous U.S. state government web page prematurely in October, as well as for a cyber hack in August against US military company, Lockheed Martin.

However, The recent cyberattacks have taken place against the background of strained concerns between Russia, the U.S., and other Western countries amid the endless war in Ukraine.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the West fiercely chastised the aggression and shifted quickly to inflict unprecedented sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s administration.
