Russia Will Launch Cyber Attacks on U.S. Power Grid
Following the latest expenditures in Ukraine by Russia, the United States and its allies have been on high alert. It is no news that the European country is seen as a threat now, more than ever. Several reports have it that the nation’s cyber attackers have sped up operations on different targets.
According to the New York Post, there has been an increase in cyber attacks since the U.S. and its allies imposed sanctions on Russia. The news outlet noted that Russia appears to have officially declared cyberwar on the US.
The post stated that big US banks like JP Morgan, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Goldman Sachs are under constant attack by cyber criminals looking to disrupt operations and steal client information.
In the wake of these offensives, there have been several speculations. Of all these projections, the threat of the attacker inflicting serious damage on the United States remains the top concern.
Russia Attackers Could Target U.S. Power Grid
One Twitter user projected that in its bid to shake the U.S., Russian cyber aggressors will attack its power grid. Although met with a few criticisms, most of the the replies under the tweet were in affirmation of this prediction.
This speculation seems more likely, as some of the biggest cyberattacks against US infrastructure in the past two years have been linked to suspected Russian hackers.
Some of the most recent hacks include the SolarWinds hack that infiltrated several government agencies in 2020. The ransomware attack that forced the shutdown of one of America’s largest fuel pipelines for several days last year and another attack on one of the world’s largest meat producers, JBS.
In response to these threats, the U.S. government is on high alert for signs of Russian cyberattacks against banks and other institutions. In other news, widespread disruption of the power grid has been reported in Taiwan. Some areas are said to have suffered power outages. There is a possibility of a cyber attack.
