Ripple and Chipper Cash partner to unlock Africa’s remittances faster. They join forces to launch fast and secure crypto-enabled cross-border payments in Africa.
On March 27, Chipper Cash announced that it would adopt Ripple payments for its crypto cross-border payments. According to the companies, the partnership aims to offer faster, cheaper, more secure, and more efficient settlements.
Ripple Partnership Drives Crypto Adoption
Reece Merrick, Ripple’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, stated that the partnership marks a significant step forward in the company’s regional growth strategy. He further pointed out that this development was driven by the escalating demand for blockchain solutions among African consumers and businesses.
The partnership between Ripple and Chipper Cash comes when blockchain technology is experiencing rapid growth in Africa, particularly in the remittance and payment sectors. As reported by Chainalysis, stablecoins have become a dominant force in Sub-Saharan Africa’s transaction landscape, accounting for almost 50% of all volumes.
Also, a report from late 2024 identified several emerging economies in Africa as potential digital asset hubs. Reece Merrick emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “By integrating Ripple’s technology into Chipper Cash’s platform, we are facilitating seamless, cost-effective cross-border payments that foster economic growth and innovation across their markets.”
Blockchain Adoption on the Rise in Remittances
Companies increasingly turn to blockchain technology to boost operational efficiency as the remittance market grows. According to Ham Serunjogi, co-founder and CEO of Chipper Cash, the integration of crypto in the industry has far-reaching implications for Africa.
In his words, “Crypto-enabled payments have the potential to enable greater financial inclusion, accelerate access to global markets, and empower businesses and individuals across Africa,”. He further highlighted that the partnership with Ripple enables Chipper Cash customers to receive payments faster and at a lower cost, building on Ripple’s existing infrastructure, which facilitates payments between 27 African countries and key global markets.
Ripple continues to make strides in the cryptocurrency space, having secured a license in Dubai to offer cryptocurrency-powered payments in the United Arab Emirates. This development follows the company’s recent victory against the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
