Rhysida Leaks Insomniac Wolverine Video Game and Future Projects

Rhysida decided to release some of the files it exfiltrated from its most recent exploits.

Insomniac Games, a game development studio under Sony’s ownership, reportedly experienced a significant ransomware attack, marking a substantial breach in gaming data security for 2023.

The compromised data, totaling a massive 1.67 terabytes, encompasses sensitive information such as upcoming projects, gaming models, unreleased game assets, story spoilers, internal communications, and personal details of employees, including passport scans and compensation figures.

The ransomware group responsible for the attack specifically targeted Insomniac Games due to its prominent position and success in the gaming industry, making it an attractive prospect for considerable financial gain.

Rhysida demanded amounted to $2 million, a substantial sum that would pose a challenge for most organizations. The severity of the breach came to light through an initial report by Cybertecwiz last week.

The alleged breach details disclosed gameplay elements, characters, and voice artists involved in the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine video game. Despite attempts to verify these claims, Insomniac Games has not issued an official statement or response, leaving the authenticity of the revelations uncertain.

Rhysida Leak Goes Beyond Wolverine

In addition to Marvel’s Wolverine details, the leaked data uncovered plans for PC ports of Spider-Man 3 and a comprehensive list of upcoming projects from the studio, along with their release timelines.

  • Marvel’s Venom – 2025
  • Marvel’s Wolverine – 2026
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 – 2028
  • Ratchet and Clank – 2029
  • X-men – 2030
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Marvel’s [Additional Titles]

The Wolverine video game leak reportedly exposed cast members and voice actors, including Krizia Bajos, Liam McIntyre and Troy Baker.

Anticipation and Uncertainty: Marvel Fans Await Official Clarification

While the leaked footage has generated excitement among Marvel fans, showcasing hints of an expansive open-world setting and innovative gaming mechanics, the authenticity of these details remains unverified.

Noteworthy features include the introduction of the in-game ability called “Imagine,” allowing the main character to relive specific moments from their memory, and the use of “smell,” a nod to the Wolverine franchise’s reliance on heightened senses. Despite the anticipation, an official statement from Insomniac Games is awaited, leaving the claims surrounding the breach in a state of uncertainty.
