Miley Cyrus is the latest artist to enter the metaverse after officially applying for two non-fungible token-related trademarks (NFTs).

On Aug. 16, Cyrus recently submitted two trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for ‘Miley’ and ‘Miley Cyrus.

The trademarks, registered under serial numbers 97551201 and 97551195, hint at plans to release downloadable virtual goods.

Miley Cyrus Trademark Patent Aligned Around Regular Branded Products

Comprising art, clothing, jewelry, eyewear, footwear, bags, toys, video game equipment, characters, badges, and more, according to the filings.

If Cyrus moves forward and releases virtual products and services, it would be the artist’s first independent venture into the metaverse.

Cyrus recently made her metaverse debut as an avatar in Gucci Town on the gaming platform Roblox, as the face of the new Flora Gorgeous Jasmine campaign from Gucci Beauty.

The first fragrance for the brand in the metaverse features digital wearables and scavenger hunts along with a digital ad campaign, Flora Fantasy, where visitors can pose for selfies next to their avatar of Cyrus.

Most recently Billie Eilish and her company Lash Music LLC filed trademark applications for her name and the Blohsh logo.

Celebrities’ Sky-High Interest In Metaverse

The metaverse may not exist yet — but that doesn’t mean celebrity A-listers aren’t trying to make money from the concept.

Take Snoop Dogg’s “Snoopverse,” which the rapper teased last week as soon having a release date.

It exists on The Sandbox, a platform built on the Ethereum blockchain, and is advertised as a place for virtual concerts, art and car exhibits, pool parties, shopping, and a digital replica of his massive California mansion.

The price for an early access pass? Almost $2,000 for one of 5,000 tickets.

Then there’s Paris Hilton’s virtual island built within Roblox, dubbed Paris World, complete with digital copies of her California home and closet where users can raid her wardrobe and purchase outfits.

think it’s important for people to not only be in the physical world but also to be in the digital world, the actress told Bloomberg.

But the celebrity hype — the same kind that has rallied around diet teas and the like in the past — Aligns with what we know about the metaverse concept at present.
