Lithuania Energy Provider Suffers Another Cyber Attack

Lithuania state-owned energy group Ignitis experienced a rare cyberattack. This hasn’t happened over the past decade

The effect of this attack caused an interruption of Ignitis websites and digital services. DDoS attack used on the website took over the sensitive infrastructure of data on their it.

The attack took place at noon on a Saturday. The hacks seemed unknown on the system during an analysis. Despite Ignitis facing cyberattacks with their infrastructure, they continued with providing digital services to their customers.

Edvinas Kerza disclosed in a statement how Ignitis has become the main target of hackers whenever they fail to deploy attacks on individuals. Hackers launch extreme DDoS attack on Ignitis group.

Kerza also affirmed present experience on botnets, DDoS, network interruptions, internet service providers clogging amongst others. Ignitis is the only target in Lithuania with the highest level of attack in the past few weeks. Hackers have used Ignitis system to perform various attacks

In a recent attack on Lithuania’s institutions and businesses in June, the country set out EU policies to sanctions transit to Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave on the Baltic coast.

Killnet hackers accepted full responsibility for the attack against Liuthania. Officials said the hackers were sponsored by Russian intelligence services. This hacktivist mobilize all their activities on the Ignitis group to change the system. Due to this Ignitis has become a known target for attacks.

Lithuania is not Backing Down

The European country is showing no signs of backing off its challenge on Russia. In a recent move, the nation extended its trade ban to the Russian Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad. However, his is in a bid to enforce EU sanctions.

The restrictions are bound to hit the enclave harder as concrete, wood, alcohol and alcohol-based industrial chemicals will not get through Lithuania to it. Nonetheless, european country is also putting efforts to curb their cyber attacks.
