Islamic State Use NFTs for Negative Agenda
Terrorist has strategized a new method to perform illicit act. Their motive is to use the NFT marketplace to attack the enemy and initiate war.
A few months ago, NFT marketplace displayed IS-NEWS #01 as being responsible for the attack which took place in Afghanistan resulting in the death of 25 people.
Thus the value was recorded as an estimate as there was possible damage in the country. NFT has become popular due to the high number of people who use it for a lucrative business.
It can be seen that terrorist organization has used NFT as a disguise to exploit financial technologies and gain full access to finance which can support their crimes.
Experts affirmed NFTs are mostly stored and traded on a fixed blockchain, which makes it vulnerable for the exploit to initiate and deploy rigid content to cause havoc for NFT users. This medium has elevated terrorism in the country as funds are being generated easily from the NFT marketplace.
Jihadoscope announced their discovery of Islamic state NFT on social media platforms.
Islamic State NFT discovered by Jihadoscope
The said NFT was first discovered by Jihadoscope, announcing its discovery on social media late last month.
NFT advocate is seen as an Islamic state alongside two other NFTs. The second NFT displayed an individual on a gas mask and lab suit, while the third contained cigarettes.
Measures have been taken to blacklist dangerous NFT such as IS-NEWS #01 and two other NFT from the origin. An existing government intelligence auditor Mario Cosby reports to Wall Street Journal on how it is impossible to take NFT down totally. There’s a high possibility chance for anyone with access to NFT addresses to view any content.
This is due to the fixed nature of the blockchain. Governmental agencies have started using NFT to finance and support their criminal activities.
However, a good NFT remains that raised funds for donations to Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
