A blockchain security company named PeckShield unraveled the OP tokens worth of one million equivalent to $874,000 was transferred to Buterin’s Etherum wallet address. The founder’s wallet was thoroughly inspected to ascertain the transaction of the OP tokens.

After this occurrence, the hacker devised a strategic method  to sell one million OP tokens in the open market. By implementing this method, the hacker has gained extensively for his interest.

Before now, a report came from Benzinga, which disclosed huge losses from Optimism, a layer solution operating on the Ethereum blockchain. The cyber attack took place due to the illegal access of the hacker to a wallet worth 20 million OP tokens.

The project not only suffered monetary losses but the blockchain it was hosted in experienced slow transaction speeds during the time of the malicious act.

The attack was reported on May 26, although Optimism publicly discussed it in June on account of specific factors associated with it. It was stated that the project considered protocols to a certain level before stating the attack.

Buterin Applauds Optimism

At the beginning of this sixth month, Optimism was applauded by Ethereum for adding a non-governance token to the ecosystem. Optimism was greatly appreciated for implementing an innovative idea.

The Ethereum founder spotted clear differences in the benefits of OP as a token gas payment or a governance token. OP has been revealed to have a significant impact on the company.

During the era of report publications, it is still unknown if Buterin was guilty of the transaction sent to his wallet. Even though the OP token was clearly seen to be traced to his account, a certain point still remains shielded to the public.
