FBI New York Office Battled a #Cyberattack On It’s System But Declared it Contained
FBI New York office suffered a cyber attack a few hours before the time of writing. There are no words as to who is responsible for the attempts.
A CNN report claimed the attack was in a bid to hide or destroy evidence. It added that the main targets of the intrusion were computers the agency operates to investigate incidences of child sexual exploitation.
FBI Contained Attack With Little Details
Confirming the attack, an FBI agent acknowledged the cyber attack on its systems happened. Additionally, he stated that the agency isolated the affected computer and claimed that the situation is under control. Strongly, indicating no need for further information.
However, At the time, there are no expressed utterances on who might be responsible for this incident. This is not the first time the FBI has had to deal with threat actors attacking the agency, directly or indirectly.
Notably, In November of 2021, someone hacked into a real FBI email address and exploited it to send over 100,000 emails to organizations the process exposing its frail system protection.
Moreover, Those transmissions had a false warning declaring the Department of Homeland Security was peeking into a cyber attack on the recipients and causing a roll of diverse reactions.
Claims Of Fixed System’s Error And Reinforcement
The FBI declared it fixed a software error that led to the emails, but as of today, there are no words on who the hacker was that took advantage of the vulnerability of the system and took over that email address.
The FBI vulnerability exploitation is the latest in a series of high-profile U.S. government hacking occurrences over the last decade.
Furthermore, In late 2020, officials discovered a well-known cyber intelligence secret operation within countless federal networks by hackers affiliated to Russian intelligence.
In 2015, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) disclosed it too had been hacked and that federal employee catalogs were stolen. The OPM internal breach was later attributed to Chinese hackers.
This not the first time the agency is under attack. Last year, Russian hackers allegedly successfully infiltrated its website.
