The Hunter Becomes the Hunted: Identity Security Company, Entrust Suffers Cyberattack
Entrust Identity recently announced on its website that hackers had compromised their internal systems. The hackers breached their firewalls and stole data through breaches in their network on the 18th of June 2022.
Entrust Identity is an online trust and identity management company. They enable users to create identities and passcodes for strong authentication when using Entrust Identity IAM platforms. It can be areas like verifying transactions, managing employee passwords and sending encrypted messages.
Entrust security services have already been trusted by government agencies and organizations in the United States. The cyberattack caused damages to the Department of Agriculture and Treasury.
Other Department were also affected. These includes the Department of Health , Human Services, Energy, Homeland security.

On June 18th, Entrust was breached and essential corporate data was stolen by hackers. The attack was revealed to customers after a security researcher, Dominic Alvieri posted a tweet with screenshots concerning Entrusts’ website downtime.
The screenshot was a confirmation of a security breach from their management addressed to Entrust customers. The message did not reveal the damages of the cyberattack therefore it is still unknown whether customers data was also stolen or only corporate data.
However, they mentioned that they are investigating the cyberattack and they are working closely with a third-party cybersecurity firm to remediate the situation.
Meanwhile, a ransomware gang has been speculated to be responsible for the cyberattack. The ransomware group is still yet to be revealed as none has claimed the operation.
Prior to current cyber attacks, the United State has improved it efforts in tracking and arresting criminals involved in these ransomware attacks.
