Distributed Denial of Service Attack Hinders President Vladimir Putin Speech
President Vladimir Putin speech at the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was delayed due to an attack known as the Distributed Denial of Service.
The attack began with the interference of internet-connected machines which have been infected with malware enabling the attackers to control this machine remotely.
Vladimir Putin had to Wait Till the of the Attack
The forum was intended to provide solutions to the Russian and Davos World Economic Forum. The occurrence of the attack took place on a Friday when Russian President Vladimir Putin was delayed for about 1hour 30 minutes to relay his speech at the country’s flag forum.
He had to painstakingly wait for the situation to abeit before delivering his speech even though his scheduled time was exceeded. Aside from the delay of the President’s speech, the western business stakeholders were absent for the economic forum due to compliance stipulated against Russia after being invaded by Ukraine’s.
However, many state companies were able to sign worthy deals at the Economic forum. This would enable huge growth for state companies. Distributed Denial of Service attack was initiated by the zombies to flood the target server with network traffic.
Mitigating DDoS attack
To mitigate the DDoS attack, an implementation of web application firewalls to protect targeted servers from certain malicious traffic, limiting the request a server will accept at a certain time, blackhole routing swerves as a defense mechanism, differentiating between attack traffic and normal traffic amongst others.
Even though President Putin’s speech was delayed at the economic forum due to the Distributed Denial of Service attack, state companies present at the forum were able to gain judiciously as they derived signed deals and other benefits from the forum.
It was stated for countries like Russia to adhere consistently to compliance rules and regulations related to mitigating Distributed Denial of Service attacks during upcoming forums.
