Clearstream Enters Crypto Market with Institutional Settlement and Custody
Clearstream, a leading post-trade services provider, is expanding its custody services to include crypto assets through a collaboration with Crypto Finance, another member of the Deutsche Börse Group.

Clearstream, a leading post-trade services provider, is expanding its custody services to include crypto assets, thanks to a collaboration with Crypto Finance, another member of the Deutsche Börse Group. This move is expected to launch in April, enabling institutional investors to access digital assets with ease.
However, Clearstream, utilizing Crypto Finance’s cutting-edge sub-custody capabilities, will now offer settlement and custody services for crypto assets, beginning with Bitcoin and Ethereum. This represents a major advancement in Clearstream’s ongoing effort to modernize financial markets.
The Firms Partnership
Deutsche Börse Group’s collaboration underscores its dedication to innovative and secure solutions. This integrated offering, as Jens Hachmeister highlights, provides a comprehensive, single-source solution for custody, brokerage, and settlement services.
Crypto Finance’s recent acquisition of the MiCAR license in January has paved the way for this expansion, enabling the company to serve clients across Europe while solidifying its regulatory compliance and leadership in the industry.
The head of Issuer Services & New Digital Markets at Clearstream, Jens Hachmeister stated:
“By offering crypto custody, we are taking a significant step forward in our mission to digitize financial markets. Our institutional-grade solution provides clients with seamless access to new asset classes, backed by the reliability and trust of our established post-trading systems.”
Additionally, he stated, “We are excited to partner with Crypto Finance, harnessing the collective strength of Deutsche Börse Group to pave the way for mainstream crypto adoption.”
Clearstream Crypto Asset Revolution
Clearstream and Crypto Finance are revolutionizing crypto asset management with this groundbreaking solution, setting a new industry standard. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the development of harmonized digital financial markets, showcasing Deutsche Börse Group’s commitment to balancing innovation with security.
Moreover, Stijn Vander Straeten, CEO of Crypto Finance Group, emphasized that this offering solidifies Deutsche Börse Group’s position as a leader in the digital assets industry. By combining native services with traditional infrastructure, they will provide a seamless and convenient entry point for financial institutions to participate in the crypto market.
Clearstream’s clients can now seamlessly access cryptocurrency custody and settlement services through their existing accounts in Clearstream Banking S.A. (CBL). However, this integration leverages established connectivity and communication formats, such as Swift, eliminating the need for additional contracts or technical relationships with cryptocurrency service providers.
