Loading

The co-founders of Yuga Labs and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Godon Goner, recently announced an impending attack on their social media. He preferably took to his Twitter account to discuss the “super mint” techniques which cyber criminals intend to implement in their next mode of action.

Medium of the attack

Allegedly, the BAYC brand has been under investigation in recent times. It was reported on June 4 the attack on BAYC discord which enables the intrusion of information from the victims. The attack, which took place on discord, led to 32 NFTs at a net worth of which was stolen from blue-chip NOT holders.

Usage of phishing links by hackers on victims is predominant, this involves users clicking on unauthorized links to deceive them into providing their sensitive information and credentials which enables the hacker full access to this data.

Based on the information obtained by the hackers, they have the ability to steal NFT from the victim’s wallet. The report was disclosed to Certik, a blockchain audit and security firm having similar attacks to the BAYC. The same group of attackers is believed to have been carried out.

The attackers used a deceptive technique of free promo adverts to lure their intended target to their malicious website in order to exploit significant information from them. Once the link was clicked by the target, the attackers were able to capture BAYC NFTs to sell them in secondary market in order to have profitable yields.

BAYC was commended positively

Despite data breaches from BAYC, they have always become honorable because of their positive responsive feedback towards handling any security breach. After the discord attack on June 4, the team addressed it immediately stating an apology note and declaring they do not offer Super Mint or any free promo.

Thus informing the users to be extra vigilant of certain links. Goner advised people on verification and authentication of links and websites before clicking.
