Bangladesh Will be the Next Victim of Russian Cyber Offensive
Bangladesh Computer Incident Response Team has warned of a possible cyberattack. They said that hackers may target critical data infrastructure and financial institutions of Bangladesh during the holidays due to the war between Russia and Ukraine that also occurs in cyberspace .
According to a statement on Friday, it was revealed that hackers would be using botnets and malware to infect or claim critical infrastructure in different countries. A botnet is a network of hijacked computers and devices infected with bot malware and remotely controlled by the hackers.
Russia Could Attack Bangladesh
A study conducted by the institute on a message issued by the Russian Computer Incident Team found about 1,400 IP addresses were used in the country. As per the report, the hackers are conducting propaganda and DDoS attacks from these IPs.
Acknowledging the threat, the Project Director of Bangladesh CIRT, Tareq M Barkatullah, stated that due to the misuse of these IP-enabled Bangladeshi servers, the country’s infected financial institutions and public service providers are being hindered from providing their regular services.
Bangladesh CIRT advised all organizations to have more cybersecurity awareness and also take various steps like updating anti-DDoS hardware and software in order to prevent botnet and malware attacks.
