Australian Agencies Suffers Massive Cyberattack With Sensitive Data Stolen

Earlier today, Australian Government agencies report its’ impact in the cyberattack on law firm HWL Ebsworth and sensitive data was released.

Air Vice-Marshal Darren Goldie said the company, which has customers at the government level in every state and territory, was operating with the government to handle the impacts of the breach.

Shortly after the aggression, Hackers from Russia claimed to have published data from the HWL Ebsworth breach on the dark web, the company says then it was looking into the claim.

At the time, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said a lack of coordination against cyber threats had left Australians at a disadvantage to attackers.

Hackers Threats Appears Unsuccessful

Russian-linked cybercriminals disclosed sensitive data from HWL Ebsworth when the firm refused to pay their ransom demands.

The ransomware gang BlackCat announced on the dark web that it had released 1.45 terabytes of data allegedly stolen from HWL Ebsworth in late April.

Furthermore, ransomware group claims to have obtained financial and insurance data, credit card data, agreements, and reports. However, the firm refuse to submit to the threat actors demand.

The breach concern for HWL Ebsworth’s clients mount on, which include ANZ, the South Australian, Queensland, and ACT governments, the Environment and Human Services Department, and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

The Australian federal government has affirmed that it was a client of the law corporation and the breach may have impacted it more than it verified.

Meanwhile, The Home Affairs Department has set up three working response team comprising a specialist legal team and a Sensitive Data team to attend to any data exposed and related individuals, national security, and law enforcement matters.
