Anonymous Sudan Strikes United Arab Emirates Satellite Network

Loading

In a bold move, Anonymous Sudan has claimed responsibility for a recent cyber attack which targeted on the key satellite infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Emphasizing on the leading players in satellite communications, the attack has brought yesterday’s concerns about the vulnerability of critical telecommunications systems and today’s continuing regional tensions into focus.

Satellite Attack was to Fight the United Arab Emirates

The cyber attack specifically targeted two prominent entities in the UAE’s satellite communications landscape: the Human Capital partnership between Star Satellite Communications and Al Yah Satellite Communications.

Star Satellite Communications Company is popular for its revolutionary satellite telecommunication solutions, and Al Yah Satellite Communications, in particular, is a branch of Mubadala Investment Company, which is responsible for multi-faceted satellite services across different sectors.

Anonymous Sudan claimed the attack was a retaliation for the UAE’s support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan,  and accused them of engaging in systematic killings.

The purpose of the group hitting the satellite infrastructure is to bring down the services and produce material and operational damage on the bodies which are reported to be behind the Rapid Support Forces.

The attack on the Emirati satellite infrastructure caused concerns about the security of the telecommunications systems and the possibility of experiencing more disruptions.

Due to satellite communications being of immense importance for the government, military, and commercial sectors, any interruption can cause a substantial ripple effect resulting in the violation of communication networks, television broadcasts, and some critical services.

Sudan has warned of continued attacks against the UAE  since it supports the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.

Their deeds reveal the interplay between geopolitical disputes and cyber conflict, emphasizing the necessity for tightened cybersecurity and diplomatic efforts to prevent the repetition of such lethal contretemps.

Nonetheless, the attack is one of many bids by the group to effect what it perceives as changes in the real world through cyberattacks.
