On Sunday, Albania National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI) stated Albania’s suspension of public services and government websites as a result of a cyberattack outside the country. Euronews made a report based on this attack.

Albania Losses Key Government Website

One key sector that was affected was Albania’s e-governance. Citizens are unable to access government services in India, thus similar to the MyGov website.

On Sunday, the e-Albania website went dormant as it became inaccessible, thus slowing down normal activities. Before this, the prime minister and Parliament website had a negative impact from the cyberattack.

Data on these websites is accessible by threat actors to deploy for their harmful activities. AKSHI devised a method to reduce the downcast of the website by shutting down these government systems until the attack came to an end.

AKSHI has enforced methods with Microsoft Jones Group International and, other Albanian ICT-based companies to limit the damage from causing severe impact on data information. Last week, the country reported unauthorized access to its database for vehicle registration data.

Although the perpetrator remains anonymous, the concerned authorities traced the attackers to Russia. They claimed that state-sponsored hackers, who are hostile toward European countries, who do not submit to their ideas were the masterminds.

Reuters report disclosed a state-sponsored distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that took place last month affecting both public and private networks in Norway.

Norway affirmed the initial attack was on a secure national data network. As a result,  there was a temporary suspension of online services. They suspect pro-Russian hackers as the main perpetrators behind the attack. The blackout affected several government services and banks.

According to an October 2021 research by Microsoft, Russia accounted for 58% of state-backed attacks, followed by North Korea (23%), Iran (11%), and China (8%).cvvvx
